Abstract
Disasters are largely intractable problems that test the ability of communities and nations to effectively protect their populations and infrastructure, to reduce both human and property loss, and to rapidly recover. The seeming randomness of impacts and problems and uniqueness of incidents demand dynamic, real-time, effective and cost-efficient solutions, thus making the topic very suitable for research. Our project consists of basically three steps scanning of the disaster area, secondly detection of the human presence, lastly communication with the victim. This project aims to rescue the victims in the disaster area by sensing human presence by using sonar. In a technical way first, we are controlling the robot using our mobile or system. Robot scans each and every area using the sensor and camera. If there is human presence robot gives the signal to the rescue team. Then our system communicates with the victim to know their condition. Thus disaster team knows about the condition of victims and also make necessary steps in order to rescue the victim.
We also have a hardware part to identify the presence of the victim in disaster area. By using sonar we are detecting the presence. The sonar sensor can be used primarily in navigation for object detection, even for small objects, and generally, are used in projects with a big budget because this type of sensor is very expensive. This sensor has high performances on the ground and in water.
The second module of our prototype is the raspberry pi 2. This system could have been developed using any other microcontroller. However, raspberry pi ensures higher processing speeds, inbuilt sound card, Broadcom card, Bluetooth and earphone ports etc. all in the size of a credit card. It has inbuilt TTS (text to speech) soft wares which may be helpful for future work.
